Dieter's Dilemma: What to Do When Willpower Fails
Submitted by guestauthor on Mon, 2006-06-05 14:38.Willpower is a most unreliable means of support when you are trying to lose weight and get in shape. Willpower will fail you every time. It is far easier to use simple systems to stay on track and manage the negative circumstances that lie in wait to sabotage your good intentions.
Everyone can recall a time when their best intention to stick with a particular task weakened and failed. I’ll bet it’s happened to you more than once, especially if you have been a player in the diet and exercise gameBeing heavy and failing to stay on your diet feels like a personal defeat. It is demoralizing to imagine people thinking, "He just has no willpower"...
Are Your Beliefs Spoiling Your Life?
Submitted by guestauthor on Sat, 2006-06-03 14:50.Throughout your life, you have formed a set of values and meanings to make sense of the world you live in. These values and meanings constitute your beliefs and your beliefs are what you hold to be true about life. Your beliefs are at the core of your existence and you wouldn’t be the person you are now without them.
Beliefs are very important. The only reason you act and behave the way you do is because of your beliefs. For example, people who believe in God will act in a way conducive with their belief – praying or going to church for example. If you don’t believe in a God, it is very unlikely you’ll pray to one.
Do You Think Motivational Thoughts?
Submitted by guestauthor on Thu, 2006-06-01 14:47.Motivational thoughts should go beyond quotes or positive thinking cliches. Your thoughts should be specifically designed to motivate you. Here are some examples.
What do motivational thoughts do? They help you take action. This isn't about positive thinking or motivating quotes. Those have their place in shaping your attitude and thinking. However, what motivates each of us is unique, so you need to have your own thoughts - those which are most effective at getting you going.
"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity" - Albert Einstein
This is a decent quote, and it may help you look at the positive side of a situation, but what if it just doesn't get you excited? Then you need to apply a little brainpower to make the idea your own. You have to make it a truly motivational thought for YOU.
Working on Personality Flaws
Submitted by guestauthor on Tue, 2006-05-30 14:43.It always starts the same; every day is the day that everything is going to change. Make sure today is really that day.
It all starts out the same... and every day you know that this is the day that everything is going to change.
Today, everything will work out just like you have been planning in your head; Breathe deeply, say positive attributes, do away with negativity, don't say the wrong things, don't talk before thinking and watch the anger over little things.
Looks complicated when you write it all down-doesn't it? Thinking and saying these things seem so much easier!
It can be easier if we take it all one at a time-first, think about what bothers you the most; Is it you or something you say or do?
Are Your Weight Loss Efforts Doomed to Failure?
Submitted by guestauthor on Mon, 2006-05-15 15:54.You want to be successful in weight loss. And to be successful there are two things you absolutely must do. You have to follow these two simple but extremely important points.
One, you have to follow a program that you can stick with, and number two, you have to include foods that you really like. Got that? A program you can stick with-and foods that you like to eat.
Number one is so simple that you might say it is too obvious. Of course a weight loss program will not work if you don’t stick with it. But the reality is that a lot of the programs that are popular today suffer from this one point.

Talking To Your Emotions: How To Heal Your Life Quickly

What most people don't realize is that emotions are real things. The word E-Motion means energy in motion. Emotions become real the second you create them. However, where most people go wrong is they suppress them because they feel no right to have those feelings on an unconscious level. So then they bury these feelings and they sit there and grow waiting to get your full attention. These emotions become real like people and want to be honored and acknowledged. The more you ignore them, the bigger they impact your life because they want you to pay attention to them. If you keep hiding them or suppressing them, well, then they say ok...I will get your attention soon enough.
Weight Loss Discipline

Why is it so hard to lose weight and keep it off? We have all heard that weight loss is just a matter of taking in less calories than we expend. That certainly sounds very logical, but is it really that simple?
For example, I had an intention of only eating fruits and vegetables for a day or two, to counteract the recent 'junk' food I had been enjoying. This was a solid plan that practically guaranteed a decrease in caloric intake. However, a solid plan doesn't always mean an easy execution.
I figured I would be relatively safe making a trip to the health food store. So my guard against high fat foods was down. When I got to the store, my sensibilities were assailed by a well meaning clerk hawking some freshly made corned beef and cabbage. I could hardly resist the temptation. And that wasn't the end of it. Once my armour was breached, the temptation of tasty, 'health oriented' cookie samples fought for my attention.

Stick To Your Diet

The Glycemic Index offers an interesting, and scientifically valid, way of assessing the types of carbohydrates we eat. It measures and rates the way these carbohydrates enter the bloodstream. And in doing so offers a way of approaching a meal so that it may be both nutritionally valid, and keep hunger pangs at bay. This of course is one way of preventing overeating. And its a great way for parents to try and curb their children's desire to eat unhealthy food between meals.
The Glycemic Index rates carbohydrates as having either a high, low or medium glycemic index. And the idea is to eat more foods that have either a low or medium glycemic index, and less with a high one. Low glycemic index foods enter the bloodstream more slowly, and so don't raise blood sugar levels like high glycemic index foods.
